Employability Service West Cork is a service that aims to place job seekers into the employment of their choice, based on their strengths, interests, and capabilities. The organization provides support as required, ensuring that job seekers can find and maintain the employment that's right for them.

Who is eligible for Employability Service West Cork?

If you are between the ages of 18 and 65 and out of work due to a long-term medical condition, illness, injury, mental illness, or any other type of disability, you are eligible for Employability Service West Cork. You don't have to be on a disability payment or in receipt of any social welfare payment to access the service. Job seekers must be job ready. They must also be willing and able to work independently for a minimum of eight hours per week and be available to attend regular meetings with a job coach. 

How does Employability Service West Cork work?

To avail of Employability Service West Cork, individuals must be referred by the Department of Social Protection. Once enrolled, job seekers can expect to receive career guidance to help them identify their employment or career goals and develop an employment action plan. Employability Service West Cork will help to develop a CV that reflects job seekers' skills, experiences, and interests, target their job search, and prepare them for interviews. The organization provides ongoing support for employment.

What grants are available for job seekers?

There are several initiatives and grants available from the Department of Social Protection that job seekers with disabilities can avail of to support them into employment. Here are a few examples: Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP): This is a six-month, 30-hour-per-week voluntary work experience programme for job seekers who are currently getting a qualifying social welfare payment and who have been unemployed for six months or more. Work Experience Program:

Employability Service West Cork has a work experience program that job seekers can avail themselves of to gain experience in a particular sector before committing to it.

JobsPlus:

Employers who offer employment opportunities to the long-term unemployed can avail of grants through JobsPlus.

Training Grants:
Job seekers may be able to avail themselves of a grant to undertake short-term training to support them to get employment.

Job Interview Interpreter Grant:

Job seekers who are deaf or hard of hearing or have a speech impairment can apply for funding to pay for an interpreter to assist them at a job interview.

Personal Reader Grant:

If you have a visual impairment or are blind and need help with reading at work, you may be eligible to apply for a grant to allow you to employ a personal reader.

Part-Time Job Incentive Scheme:

The Part-Time Job Incentive (PTJI) Scheme allows long-term job seekers to take up part-time work for less than 24 hours per week and get a special weekly allowance instead of their jobseeker's payment. It is intended to be a steppingstone to full-time work.

WSS Wage Subsidy Scheme:

The Wage Subsidy Scheme provides financial incentives to employers, outside the public sector, to employ disabled people who work a minimum of 21 hours per week. The employer is paid a subsidy. Operational Guidelines: Wage Subsidy Scheme

Employee Retention Grant:

The purpose of the Employee Retention Grant Scheme is to assist employers to retain employees who acquire an illness, condition, or impairment that impacts their ability to carry out their job. It helps to explore the employee's continuing capacity to operate as a productive member of the workforce. Employee Retention Grant

Workplace Equipment Adaption Grant:

This grant is designed for people with a disability who've been offered employment, or are about to be re-deployed, promoted or become self-employed. If any of these changes means a more accessible or adapted workplace is required for you to do your job, your employer may get a grant towards the costs. Examples include minor modifications such as ramps or toilets, alarm systems with flashing lights, equipment adaptation, such as voice synthesisers for computers or amplifiers for telephones. Jobs Plus Scheme:

JobsPlus is an employer incentive that encourages and rewards employers who employ job seekers on the Live Register. Employers are paid an incentive monthly in arrears over a 2-year period. It provides two levels of regular payments. Operational Guidelines: JobsPlus

Disability Awareness Training:
